Trying to grow the PHP market

Sometimes recruiting efforts yield very nice results.

As of this week, Mikko Koppanen works in our UK team. Mikko is known from his Imagick extension, a wrapper to use ImageMagick in PHP.

The nice thing about this is that now we finally have someone on board who knows how to write PHP extensions.

Zend.com WDE powered!

Last weekend the new Zend.com website was launched. I am very proud to say that it is WDE powered! WDE (Web Development Environment) is our content management system, based on our business framework ATK.

From our partnership with Zend we learned that Zend was searching for a new CMS. Soon after a demo of WDE a couple of the Zend.com team members came over and we had a nice week of training, discussion and thinking. After this week Ibuildings advised Zend on the implementation of new functionality in WDE.

Running PHP on Windows

This weekend I did a short research for a consultancy job in the UK regarding PHP on Windows. Since I am more of a Linux guy I don't follow the Windows developments on a daily basis. It seems like a coincidence: Microsoft released their fastCGI implementation just a couple of days ago. The announcement is covered on many sites including IIS.net and Devzone.

Web 2.0 presentatie Second Tuesday

Gisteravond heb ik op de Second Tuesday een introductie gegeven over Web 2.0. Omdat ik de vraag kreeg of ik de urls die ik heb laten zien wilde delen, heb ik ze hieronder verzameld. Ik heb ze grofweg ingedeeld volgens de onderwerpen zoals ik ze behandeld heb (sommige sites horen eigenlijk thuis in meer categorieen).

ATK's hidden gems, part 1

ATK contains lots of hidden gems. Most of them are hidden because they are undocumented or because they are only documented in the API docs (which nobody seems to read...). In the past few years we've tried to improve the documentation for ATK. We've created a Wiki with lots of how-to's, the "Pizza Guides", a demo application and improved the API documentation. However there are still some features of ATK nobody seems to know about. In my next few blogs, starting with this one, I will write about some of them.
